How to add a Skype contact in Skype for Business

 

If your organization allows it, you can use Lync to communicate with Skype contacts.

To add a Skype contact:

  1. In the Skype for Business main window, select Add a contact  > Add a Contact Not in my Organization

  1. Select the option for “Skype” as the IM provider. 
  2. In the IM Address box, enter your new contact using one of the following formats:
  • ·         For Skype accounts using a Microsoft owned domain (msn.com, Hotmail.com, outlook.com, & live.com). You may simply enter in the user’s email address (example: BruceWayne@msn.com). 
  • ·         Old Skype accounts didn’t use domains in the username, so for old Skype accounts you will use the format username@skypeids.net  
  • ·         Newer Skype accounts with non-Microsoft owned domains will use the format username(domain)@msn.com. So if the Skype username is TonyStark@gmail.com you would enter TonyStark(gmail.com)@msn.com.
