MS Teams - Configuring the Yealink Teams EXP50 Module
Configuring the Yealink Teams EXP50 Module
Goal
This document aims to provide instructions for setting up and configuring the Yealink Teams EXP50 Sidecar device, including the connection of the EXP50 sidecar to the host phone, updating its firmware, and configuring contacts.
Device Setup
-
Turn the Teams desk phone that the EXP50 is being connected to and the EXP50 expansion module over and lay them on a flat, clean surface.
-
Take the supplied USB Cable and connect the USB end of the cable to the host desk phone and the mini-USB end to the EXP50, as shown below:
The main USB port on the host phone may be in a different location than the image example above, such as on the side of the phone, as in the example below:
As long as the EXP50 is connected to a compatible Yealink Teams Desk phone (T56A/T58A/VP59/MP56/MP58/MP58-WH Teams phones), connecting the main USB side to the host phone and the mini-USB side to the EXP50 should work.
If you are connecting more than one sidecar to the host phone, you will need another USB + mini-USB cord to connect the USB end to the prior/last EXP50 expansion module, and then the mini-USB jack/end to the next Expansion Module, as shown below:
NOTE: Power is automatically transferred from the host phone to the first EXP50 expansion module sidecar upon connection. If you wish to connect more than one EXP50 sidecar expansion module to a single Teams desk phone / host phone, you will need to connect 1 Yealink Power Adapter (5V/2A) to any one of the expansion modules per additional Sidecar added, with a limit of three EXP50 Sidecars to any one host phone.
Ex. 1 Sidecar = no adapter needed, 2 Sidecars = 1 Adapter Needed, 3 Sidecars = 2 adapters needed
Updating the Firmware
The EXP50 Sidecar does not have its own firmware version, as it is a USB device that pulls all of its Contact and Presence/Status information from the host phone itself. Any firmware/teams app updates would be on the host phone itself.
Configuring the Contacts
By default, the EXP50 Sidecar will pull contacts that are added to your Teams “Speed Dials” contact group. Any additional contacts you add to Speed Dials will also push to the EXP50 Sidecar.
Adding to Speed Dials on Teams desktop Client:
-
Open the Teams desktop application
-
Under Calls > Contacts/History, click the 3 dots on the desired contact.
-
Select “Add to Speed Dial”
-
You can also add contacts from your O365 tenant’s directory by going to the Teams Desktop Client > Calls > Click the “Add Contact” symbol next to “Speed Dials”
-
If you wish to add other Contact Groups from your Teams Contacts to the sidecar, on the Teams deskphone / host phone you will need to navigate to People > Select the contact group dropdown > Select the group you wish to add to the sidecar > Select the vertical ellipsis (⋮) to the right of the Contact Group name, then choose “Pin to Sidecar”.
This will push the contacts in that group to the attached EXP50 sidecar.
To remove a group of contacts from the sidecar, follow the same steps but then select “Unpin Group from Sidecar”.
NOTE: any contacts added to the EXP50 sidecar, whether by Speed Dials group or pinned Contact Groups, will appear on the Sidecar in the order you assigned them, not in alphabetical order or by group. Some changes to the sidecars may not appear until you have rebooted the host phone.
